MI Wage & Hour Division
Posted by Shelly Henderson on Apr. 30, 2018 / Subscribe 1
Hello, I just attended the LARA Wage & Hour Division presentation (which I believe was presented at the April meeting). One of her bullet points referenced the fact that timesheets must show the start and end time worked each day. Our current time entry system only records hours per day and when I just called our software company (based in MI), they had never heard of this rule. I, nor our previous payroll clerk who implemented the software, had any idea this rule existed and I have never heard mention of it at any payroll meetings or statewide presentations. Am I being stupid here?? How did I miss something so huge??

Hi Shelly, Yes, I think this might have been overlooked by your previous payroll management. All information that I see available on the MI DOL website confirms this requirement. The best thing at this point is to meet internally to find out the best way to become compliant as quick as possible. Are you using a time and attendance system, or are you using an SAP/ERP system? Those are known to just track number of hours as it is more for the purpose of costing than time tracking. Best of luck to you!
